Is your furnace blowing fuses, or does it keep tripping the breaker repeatedly?
If so, it is important to address this problem as soon as possible.
Because your comfort and safety is important to us at Upper Arlington Heating & Air, we present the following information.
If your furnace fuse is blowing repeatedly, or it’s tripping the breaker, you might have a problem with:
- Wrong Fuse
To start off with, you need to make sure your furnace has the right type of fuses in place. If you’re using the wrong fuses, there’s a good chance this is causing the problem. In any case, we can diagnose this problem quickly and put in the right size fuse. - Loose Electrical Wiring
Furnace wiring can loosen up from the various vibrations of a normal system over time. If so, it can cause a short and make the fuse blow or trip the breaker. Because locating and repairing the loose wire is complicated and dangerous, contacting a qualified HVAC technician that’s fully insured is imperative. Remember also, we check this sort of thing during a furnace maintenance appointment. - Defective or Worn Parts
Wear and tear is inevitable with HVAC equipment over a long enough timeline. Because of this, the parts in your furnace can become defective or malfunction or simply break down from old age and long-term usage. - Dust, Dirt and Debris
Dirt, dust and debris often find a way from a furnace’s air filters into the blower motor. This can cause the motor to overheat and burn out eventually. It can also make the furnace blow a fuse and shut down. Cleaning or replacing your furnace filters should be a part of your regular home maintenance schedule. - Leaking Water
If you have a humidifier attached to your furnace, or something similar, it’s not unusual for there to be a water leak causing issues. If not caught in time and taken care of promptly, water leaks can damage the system. In this case, you’ll want to call us to keep your expensive furnace system running like it should and preventing further damage. - Faulty Gas Valve Issues
If you have a gas furnace and it keeps blowing fuses, or tripping the breaker, you might want to check the gas safety valve. You should be able to open it and close it as needed. If the valve is clogged, it might keep too much heat inside the unit and force too much heat out. This can lead to overheating and potentially even a fire. - Malfunctioning Thermostat Wire
For electric furnaces, the thermostat wire should never contact the metal frame of the furnace. If it does, it’s likely to send a higher voltage than the wires are meant to take. This will cause a fuse to blow. When it does, the rest of the furnace stops functioning properly.
